COGS Full Council Denounces DHS Proposed F/J Visas Policy
In their October 14, 2020 full council meeting, The Council of Graduate Students (COGS) passed, by unanimous vote, a statement condemning the proposed DHS F/J Visas Policy. The statement was unanimously approved by the COGS Full Council in response to the proposed rule: “Establishing a Fixed Time Period of Admission and an Extension of Stay Procedure for Nonimmigrant Academic Students, Exchange Visitors, and Representatives of Foreign Information Media” (Federal Register Number 2020-20845). It will be submitted as a public comment and distributed to the MSU congressional delegation.
COGS encourages MSU graduate and professional students to submit their own public comment at https://beta.regulations.gov/document/ICEB-2019-0006-0001 by the October 25, 2020 deadline.

Spartan Safety Kits Distributed
All Michigan State University students can receive a Spartan Safety Kit – containing face coverings and appliques, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, a tape measure, health and safety information and a copy of the MSU Community Compact. Kits have been distributed to all campus housing as well as off-campus apartments. Please check with your residence hall office or apartment leasing office if you did not receive a kit upon check-in. *Note: if you belong to one of the Medical Schools (including satellite campuses), please check with your department.
Undergraduate and graduate students living off-campus who did not receive their kits from their landlord or department may pick them up at the MSU Union from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, and from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31-Thursday, Sept. 3. MSU students will need to show student identification and sign for their Spartan Safety Kit. #msusas
Statement on federal government’s decision to rescind directive impacting international students
July 14, 2020:
President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. issued the following statement after learning of the federal government’s decision to rescind its July 6 Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP) directive:
“This is welcome news for all international students who come to our country to study at our colleges and universities. We appreciate the federal government’s heeding the call of the hundreds of institutions of higher education throughout our country. MSU will continue to advocate on behalf of our international students, who are an essential part of our Spartan community.”
