The MSU Counseling and Psychiatric Center (CAPS) seeks to create and sustain a campus environment by aiding with identity development, community responsibility, health and wellness, multicultural awareness, social justice, and career development.

CAPS: CRISIS SUPPORT

If you are in crisis, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. CAPS crisis services are also available 24/7. Call (517) 355-8270 and press “1” at the prompt to speak with a crisis counselor.

Campus Health Services – Olin Health Center
Olin Health Center is the primary health care facility for MSU students.  Olin Health Center is home to primary care, psychiatry, allergy/immunizations, sports medicine, and health education services. For an appointment, call (517) 353-4660 or schedule online

Primary Care for illness and minor injuries is available at Olin Health Center and in the neighborhood clinics (hours and availability vary by location).

Programs at Center for Survivors 

We are honored to provide a wide array of services to survivors of sexual assault and the community. We believe in the dignity and worth of all survivors and strive to provide trauma-informed, survivor centered, and culturally competent services to all survivors of sexual assault. We understand that healing can come in many forms and are hopeful that you will find a service at the Center that helps you on the healing journey.

Togetherall Program

Togetherall:  Free, Anonymous, Peer-to-Peer Mental Health Support Community

In 2024, CAPS launched a new, free online peer-to peer mental health support community, Togetherall. Monitored and moderated 24/7 by licensed clinicians, the platform is for students who are feeling overwhelmed with academic, social, or personal challenges, but might not seek out in-person or virtual mental health treatment. Students only need their MSU email to register.

The CAPS website offers numerous resources such as ThrivingCampus.  MSU is a proud partner of this an online platform that makes it easier for you to connect with off-campus mental health care and well-being services.

The United Resiliency Center – A Program of Common Ground

The United Resiliency Center, located on the corner of Grand River and Hagadorn,  was created in the aftermath of the 2/13 mass violence incident at MSU as a space for community healing and wellness. We offer one-on-one emotional support and advocacy for those impacted by the incident. We also offer support group facilitation and larger group wellness programming such as guided yoga, art therapy, and mindful journaling. Students and faculty interested in longer-term therapy services or other community resources.

US Healthcare and Insurance: Information for International Students and Scholars

The health care system in the United States is complex, and as a student or scholar at MSU, you are required to have health insurance. Learn how to use your health insurance so you can get the medical care you need. Just click on the icon to reach the link on the OISS page.  Need help beyond the information provided? Student Health Insurance Coverage – The MSU Student Insurance Plan is available to all undergraduate and graduate students. The only students required by MSU to have health insurance are international, medical, and veterinary students.  If you are an international student, you can find help on US insurance and healthcare from OISS at Office for International Students and Scholars :: U.S. Health Care and Insurance (msu.edu)  You can also contact them at ihealth@msu.edu

Graduate Assistants – Health Insurance Coverage -MSU provides health coverage for graduate assistants and their eligible dependents through Blue Care Network (BCN). As a graduate assistant, you are enrolled automatically in the health plan, and MSU picks up the cost of your health coverage.

MSU Food Bank – The MSU Student Food Bank is intended to provide supplemental food and other necessities for students and their families who are in need of this type of support.

Recreational Sports and Fitness Services

Our mission is to promote each participants learning experience by engaging the university community in healthy lifestyles through sport, fitness and recreational opportunities.

The mission of the Office of the University Physician is to oversee areas at MSU where there is a requirement or need for specific programs or policies that impact the health and safety of the people who work, learn, and live at MSU. Simply stated, the mission is to facilitate compliance with existing state and federal statutes in occupational health, as well as to optimize the public health environment.

The Travel Clinic at MSU promotes safe and healthy travel by providing counseling to travelers about appropriate vaccines and preventive medication.

The Travel Clinic utilizes national and international travel expertise to provide current travel information and recommendations. The Clinic is a designated Yellow Fever vaccine site. The Clinic health care providers are certified by the The British Global and Travel Health Association.

For Students:  The Travel Clinic supports our students’ international educational experiences by promoting safe and healthy travel.
