The Kugel model of educator development emphasizes that the journey of inclusivity in education transitions from focusing on the educator to fostering independent learners. In this session, we will discuss the challenges of Inclusive Teaching and how we can design flexible learning environments that accommodate individual learner differences. We will also touch on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how it provides a more effective strategy, ensuring all students have equal learning opportunities.
Attendees of this session will have the opportunity to get a deck of Inclusive Teaching Cards.
This session is offered in Hybrid style, it will be availble on Zoom or in person in Chittenden Hall.

We will share resources, a “Survival Guide,” and give you opportunities to ask questions and make new connections.

Navigating Digital Accessibility @ MSU Navigating Digital Accessibility @ MSU

This workshop explores the basics of digital accessibility and the resources that are available to instructors at MSU. We will explore components of Universal Design for Learning and discuss the ways educators can apply these principles to their own courses. This course is intended for instructors of students at any level.
Upon completion of this learning experience participants will be able to:
Explain the importance of implementing digital accessibility practices in the classroom
Recognize the concepts involved in universal design for learning (UDL)
Identify resources related to digital accessibility that are available at MSU
Discuss possibilities for making their new and/or existing courses accessibleAdditional Resource: Digital Accessibility Toolkit (msu.edu)
Facilitator: Dr. Katherine (Katie) Knowles received her PhD in the Department of English at Michigan State University. She is also pursuing the Certification in College Teaching and earned the Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities. She received her BA from Hanover College and her MA from the University of Birmingham’s Shakespeare Institute. Knowles has acted as both a GA and the instructor of record for a variety of IAH courses during her time at MSU, and she was a CTLI fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year during which she developed a project on Digital Accessibility at MSU.

Location:
Each semester has a deadline for the initial submission of theses and dissertations to ProQuest. The deadline is generally two weeks prior to the final deadline. Plan your defense accordingly. The document submitted to ProQuest is expected to be a final version, meaning it has been successfully defended, corrections the committee wants have been made, and there are no more content changes.
Students are highly encouraged to read and follow the Thesis and Dissertation information available on the Graduate School’s website at: https://grad.msu.edu/etd. This site gives instructions on formatting, required paperwork, and how to submit to ProQuest.
The Graduate School will not accept documents for review for the current semester after 5:00PM ET on the submission deadline date.
