Graduate and Professional Student Recreational and Wellness Center Relief Fund
To the graduate and professional students of MSU,
I hope that you have had a wonderful and truly restful holiday break. I am writing to inform you that the Council of Graduate Students (COGS) has conveyed the concerns of MSU graduate and professional students to our University partners who, in turn, responded to help. COGS would like to thank the Office of Student Life and Engagement (SLE), the Graduate School, and the Office for Research and Innovation (ORI) who donated funds and worked to generously create a relief fund for graduate and professional students for the Recreational and Wellness Center fee. This fund is intended to provide a one-time, $170 reimbursement to help relieve financial pressure caused by this otherwise unavoidable fee. DISCLAIMER: if you receive this refund, you will no longer have a membership to use the rec sports facilities.
Since the money in this fund is limited, we have created a list of criteria to ensure that students who are disadvantaged by this fee will be considered first. The criteria are:
1. You must be a currently enrolled grad or prof. student (international students are eligible);
2. You must submit a 100-word-minimum essay explaining how the fee has negatively impacted you financially;
3. You must provide a PDF copy of your receipt (this must be your official student account summary for Spring 2024 which can be accessed through the Student Accounts tab on your Student Information System portal, i.e., student.msu.edu) as proof of having been enrolled for the Spring 2024 semester, having been charged the fee, and having paid it.
All eligible applications will be accepted; however, in the event that funds become limited, and one candidate must be chosen instead of another, the applicant who applies first will receive the funding.
You can find the application here: https://msu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0MLkPOr7rHJ0XIi
If you have any questions about the application or have trouble accessing it, please contact Tina Houghton (hought17@msu.edu) immediately. We unfortunately will not be able to provide funding after all the funds have been distributed if you are unable to apply due to technical issues with the application form.
Thank you, and we hope you have a great semester ahead of you.
Hannah Jeffery, President
The Council of Graduate Students
