King-Chávez-Parks Future Faculty Fellowship Program (FFF) Application Deadline Extended to April 26, 2024
Established by the Michigan Legislature in 1986 and named in honor American civil rights activists Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968), César Chávez (1927-1993), and Rosa Parks (1913-2005), the King-Chávez-Parks (KCP) Initiative is comprised of seven different programs. The ultimate goal of these programs is to increase the number of Michigan’s most educationally or economically disadvantaged citizens who have the opportunity to complete college degrees and experience career success as active participants in a knowledge-based global economy.
Brief overview:
- Fellowship in partnership with the State of Michigan
- For Ph.D. students that are interested in teaching in higher ed after graduation that are within 1-2 years of graduation
- For US Citizens/have to meet some other specific State of Michigan Requirements (Requirements are linked on the website listed above)
- $35,000 stipend, + student health insurance for an academic year, + 3 credits of tuition (a summer, fall and spring)
- Students are obligated to teach or complete some higher ed administrative work after graduation (amount of time depends on the amount of funding that comes directly from the State of Michigan’s allocation—generally 2 or 3 years of teaching is required)
