I am Vanessa Garcia Polanco, a first-year Master of Science Student in the Deparment of Community Sustainability. In my previous institution (University of Rhode Island), I serve on the undergraduate student senate for four years that allow me to have several rolls such as Academic Resources Chair, Academic Affairs Chair, College of the Environment and Life Scenes Liason, Council of Research Liason, Faculty Senate Liason and Provost Advisory Committee.
I look forward to represent my department graduate students, serve you all, protect your rights as students, workers, and colleagues and make your time at MSU CSUS the best it can be.
Emily Huizenga is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Forestry. She is originally from Bay Point, California and previously earned a B.S. in Biology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Prior to MSU, she worked with the National Parks Service and in environmental consulting. Her research interests are in human dimensions of forestry; and she is specifically interested in the nexus between forest ecosystems, watersheds, and society.
I am a PhD student in Biosystems Engineering and Food Science. My research interests are within mathematical modeling and parameter estimation as they apply to process validation and microbial inactivation in foods. My current research involves relating heat and mass transfer kinetics to microbial inactivation kinetics, quantifying process variability, and translating these results into a public health impact. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy brewing beer, golfing, playing ice hockey, watching sports and spending time with my dog.
